This highlights the importance of looking at social media, not as a short-term communication solution, but as a tool that is vital in managing initiatives such as corporate reputation and brand loyalty over the long-term.

While it’s important to listen and respond to customer service type queries, gathering the intelligence to spot trends, influencers, competitive positioning etc over a longer period, and acting on these drivers, will have far greater impact.
